Pflugerville wins the Best Tasting Water in the Surface Water Category Award from the Texas Water Utilities Association

The Texas Water Utilities Association (TWUA) Laboratory Analyst Section awarded the City of Pflugerville first place in the "Best Tasting Water Contest" for surface water in Southwest Region, Alamo Chapter.

The Alamo Chapter hosted the contest during the annual Southwest Regional School.  A panel of trained judges from the TWUA Laboratory Analyst's Section utilized a process known as the "flavor profile analysis" to determine the winning drinking water for each category. The process seeks to identify the water sample entries, which most nearly demonstrates a total absence of any detectable taste and/or odor.  Utility Director James Wills with the City of Pflugerville accepted the award for the Surface Water category.

The water was judged on clarity, color, smell and taste. This is the second award for the City of Pflugerville's water after being first runner up in the American Water Works Association best tasting contest in March 2009. The City of Pflugerville will now compete at the TWUA State Competition in Corpus Christi in March 2010.

"This award tells everyone what we already know, that we have great tasting water in Pflugerville and we do a good job preparing water for our customers," Utility Director James Wills said.  "We were excited and pleased to take first place out of 12 applicants."

Public Works was recognized at the October 27 City Council meeting as Council members drank Pflugerville?s tap water.

The Texas Water Utilities Association is a non-profit corporation headquartered in Austin, Texas.  The Association exists to provide education and training opportunities for water and wastewater operators, managers, laboratory personnel, customer service technicians and others in the water utilities profession in Texas.
