Money magazine (Pflugerville's listing)

Pflugerville ranks 43 in Money Magazine's list of America's best places to live

The City of Pflugerville ranked 43 out of 100 best small cities in America by Money Magazine. Money's Best Places to Live magazine cover

"Money Magazine saw what we already know about Pflugerville, it's a great place to live!," Pflugerville Mayor Jeff Coleman said. "With our safe streets, beautiful park system, recognized school district and incredible community spirit, it's evident why Pflugerville is in the top 100. As we continue to grow in population and add restaurants, shopping centers and employment opportunities, Pflugerville is continuing to receive attention nationwide as a great place to live and raise a family."

Money Magazine's ranking system compared Pflugerville's connectivity, housing, financial state and quality of life to other cities nationwide. Pflugerville joins the Texas cities of Allen, Flowermound, Mansfield, and McKinney in the top 100 best small cities list.

According to the Money Magazine website, the Best Places to Live designation is based on what "American families care about most - - strong job opportunities, great schools, low crime, quality health care and plenty to do."

Money Magazine lists Pflugerville residents' short commutes, the opportunity to relax at Lake Pflugerville full with its recreational opportunities, sound city finances, and the city's commitment to sustainability demonstrated by the planned construction of the Pflugerville Solar Farm, one of the largest solar farms in the country.

Most notable Pflugerville statistics include Pflugerville's 147.94% job growth from 2000 - 2011 compared to the best places average of 25.01%.  In addition, Pflugerville's personal and property crime incidents of 1 per 1000 were half the best places average of 2 per 1000, highlighting the low crime rates in Pflugerville.

How Pflugerville was chosen:  Money Magazine starts with all U.S. cities with populations of 50,000 to 300,000 and narrows the list by eliminating cities with less than average median income, less diversity and those with higher crime and lower education scores. Next Money Magazine eliminates retirement communities or towns with major job losses and ranks the rest based on job growth, home affordability, safety, school quality, health care, arts and leisure, diversity and ease-of-living criteria. Factor in a great economy, health care, a great trail system and happiness, and you get Pflugerville, Texas!
