Get ready for your pfloat in the Deutschen Pfest Parade  
Deutschen Pfest float 2015It's time to start preparing your float ideas for the 2016 Deutschen Pfest parade on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Get your scout troop, friends or civic organization together and plan your float for this annual event. 

Awards are given for best out of town, best local business, best youth organization and best non-profit organization. 

Children's parade
 The children's parade for children age 12 provides a shorter, 4-block route for children. The children's parade is prior to the main parade down Main St. 

Prizes are given for best German theme, most decorative bike/wagon, most creative and youngest participant. It's a chance to put on your favorite costume and decorate your bike as you ride down Main Street in front of all the spectators.

Pfree running class series starts tomorrow at the Pflugerville Recreation Center
runnersThe Pflugerville Recreation Center, 400 Immanuel Road, welcomes certified Newton Running Coach Russell Seguin on the first Saturday of each month starting February 6 for a series of classes on running form and technique.

Participants are invited to the Pflugerville Recreation Center kitchen from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. for class instruction followed by a run in the park. You do not have to be a recreation center member to participate. 

Class 1: February 6, 2016 - An Introduction to Running (with a smile!)
Class 2: March 5, 2016 - Running Form- How to run more easily
Class 3: April 2, 2016 - How to Prevent & Self-Treat Common Running injuries
Class 4: May 7, 2016 - How to Best Increase Running Speed and/or Distance

Heatherwilde Boulevard Widening Project begins February 8
HeatherwildeThe City of Pflugerville begins construction on Heatherwilde Blvd on Monday, February 8. Motorists are asked to drive carefully as temporary lanes will be created to allow both north and southbound traffic on Heatherwilde throughout the project. A traffic signal at Kingston Lacy is part of the project's first phase. For more information, visit Heatherwilde Boulevard is a Transportation Bond project approved by the voters in 2014. 

Be an Animal Shelter Volunteer 
The next Animal Shelter Volunteer training class is February 13 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the shelter, 1600 Waterbrook Drive. Volunteers age 16 and up help walk dogs, play with cats and assist with adoption events in the community. Sign up in advance at

Be sure to Drop it and Lock It

Drop it lock itVehicle burglary is a crime of opportunity. The Pflugerville Police Department reminds residents to always Drop It and Lock It. Drop your valuables in your trunk and hide them from public view. Be sure to always lock your vehicle.

Here are some helpful tips to remember:
PARK in a well-lit area.
CLEAN out your vehicle; do not leave any valuables in plain sight.
REMOVE your garage door opener or place it out of sight.
DO NOT program your home address into your GPS device.
LOCK your vehicle.
REPORT any suspicious activity or person to the Police Department by calling 512-251-4004.

What's Happening
AARP Tax help at the Library - Do you need some assistance filing your taxes? Tax help is offered on Fridays starting January 29 through April 15. Assistance from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. First come, first served.

Weiss Lane Transmission Main installation- Current construction along Weiss Lane is for the installation of a water line which will provide water to the new high school. Several other segments of water line are also planned for installation. Once the water line construction is complete, the city will proceed on the road widening project as approved by the voters in the 2014 bond election.

Provide feedback on public transit in Pflugerville - The city of Pflugerville wants your input on transit options for the city. Take the survey online The city will host a public meeting on February 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pflugerville Public Library, 1008 W Pfluger Street, to further discuss the project. Take the survey today. 

HanzDeutschen Pfest: Register for the Deutschen Pfest 5K Pfun Run and Kids K. Festival arts and craft and booth vendor applications are also available online. for details on the Pfestival which returns May 20-22, 2016.
