City welcomes interim chief of police Jessica Robledo
The City of Pflugerville will conduct a badge pinning ceremony for newly appointed Interim Chief of Police Jessica Robledo. The ceremony will be held at the Pflugerville Justice Center, 1611 East Pfennig Lane on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2 p.m.  (photo courtesy City of Austin)robledo photo

The ceremony will feature Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo performing the official pinning of the badge. Representatives of regional law enforcement agencies will also attend. 

Interim Chief of Police Robledo joins the City of Pflugerville after more than 28 years of public service including 13 years of executive level leadership in the Austin Police Department. She has promoted the use of data driven techniques to assist in developing and supporting departmental efforts. Robledo recognizes the importance of community policing and has connected with the community through her work with numerous organizations.

Robledo stated that she is honored to serve the citizens of Pflugerville and work with the excellent personnel at the Pflugerville Police Department. 

City Council finalize Typhoon Texas terms
At a joint meeting, the City of Pflugerville, Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) and Typhoon Waterpark of Pflugerville, LLC (Typhoon Texas) negotiated and approved the terms of a two-year ground and operating lease agreement for the waterpark in Pflugerville. The lease and operating agreement includes options to renew in 10-year increments up to 2038. 

The approved lease terms include an outline of added family-friendly features and funding plans to make the park more of a regional and local destination.

Typhoon Texas will honor Hawaiian Falls 2017 season passes that have already been purchased and is currently matching Hawaiian Falls season pass pricing for new park passes ($69.99).
Typhoon Texas will provide free parking to patrons with the exception of VIP or valet parking. 
Typhoon Texas will resurface and remedy the areas of the waterpark that currently feature gravel stone and sand.
Typhoon Texas committed to add new rides to the facility, including the Gully Washer, a giant four-story water splash-pad playground with slides and activities for young children. The Gully Washer will be operational, weather permitting, by May 2017. (pictured)

We Pfreeze Pflopped into 2017

There were 170 people that participated in the annual Pfreeze Pflop at Scott Mentzer Pool, 901 Old Austin Hutto Road to kick off 2017. It was 58 degrees outside when the event began and the water was a chilly 54 degrees Fahrenheit. With admission granted in return for canned goods, there were two boxes and bags full of food donated to help those in need. Thank you to all who participated in the Pfreeze Pflop.

Friends of the Library Book Sale 
The Friends of the Pflugerville Library will host a book sale on January 12 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and January 13 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sale items include used books, tapes, DVDs and audio books. Proceeds from the sale support library programs and events.

Celebrate National Hobby Month at the Pflugerville Library 
January is National Hobby Month and the library wants to help you learn something new. Seniors, come to the library on Monday, January 9 and make a necklace with a baked clay pendant charm and beads. Senior Crafternoon starts at 2 p.m. in the Pfab Lab. The program is designed for those ages 55 and up, but anyone 18 and up is welcome to attend. Want to do more with clay? Come to Adult Craft Night on Thursday, January 12 at 6 p.m. and use oven-bake clay to make a miniature air plant pot. All materials, including air plants, will be provided while supplies last. Anyone 18 and up is welcome to attend.

Tweens ages 8 to 12 are welcome to attend Paperback Pirates on Wednesday, January 11 at 4:30 p.m. for a discussion about books and a related craft. Kids will receive a book to take home for two weeks at the meeting. This month’s selection is Socks by Beverly Cleary.

Kids, don’t miss out on Kids Crafternoon this month! Kids ages 5 to 8 can come to the library on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. to work on a different project every week. This month children will make snowmen, penguins and polar bears, and a dragon mask using a variety of craft supplies. All library programs are free and materials are provided to participants while supplies last. Intermediate Computer Classes for Adults 
Kick off the New Year with new skills. Attend the Intermediate Computer Class on Monday, January 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Pflugerville Library. Senior wellness classes offered to Senior Activity Members at the Recreation Center 
Members of the senior group at the Pflugerville Recreation Center can enjoy free monthly wellness classes in the Weight Room at the Recreation Center 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Hosted by Reavis Rehab, these classes are offered to help seniors be fit and healthy. 

January 9 - Weight Loss Awareness Month "New Year's Goals - Lifting to Weight Loss"
February 13 - Heart Month "Lifting for a Healthier Heart"
March 13 - Lymphedema Awareness Month"Lymphedema: Importance of Weight Management & Exercise"
Seniors age 55 and up may join the senior group at the Recreation Center to join the fun. City resident membership is $3 per individual and $5 per couple.

What's Happening
Final weekend of tree recycling  - Christmas tree recycling is offered through January 8 at Wells Point Park, 800 S Heatherwilde. Please remove all decorations from your tree. Trees dropped off for recycling are mulched and residents are welcome to pick up mulch while supplies last. Trees left curbside on your trash or recycling pickup day are not recycled. To be picked up curbside the tree must be cut into pieces no longer than 4 ft long and all decorations should be removed. Thank you to everyone for recycling your tree at Wells Point Park. 

See a dark street light? Report it! - Streetlights in the city of Pflugerville are maintained by Oncor and the city of Austin. If you see a streetlight that is out, please report it. Please be our eyes and be on the watch for any in your neighborhood that may need to be repaired. Visit Pflugervilletx.gov/streetlight to report an issue.

(c)Twentieth Century Fox. While you watch the movie, take photos in front of a green screen to create your own peculiar photographs. This program is for ages 12-18.

January 21 and 22: Pfamily Weekend at the Pflugerville Library –
 On Saturday, January 21 your pfamily can enjoy board games at the library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your pfamily to the library on Sunday, January 22 at 2 p.m. for a pfree screening of Ice Age Collision Course (20th Century Fox ©, rated PG). All ages are welcome.

January 28: Pfat Cat Pfest – Pflugerville Animal Welfare Services hosts a Pfat Cat Pfest for adoptions of our Pfat, and not so pfat cats! We will weigh the cat and the cost of adoption is the weight or a maximum of $10. If you guess within .25 lbs of the weight, the cat is free. Wear your Pfun cat sweaters and T-shirts and come for all things pfeline on Saturday, January 28 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Animal Shelter 1600 Waterbrook Drive.
