The Pflugerville Police Department has launched Bark Alert, a new initiative to alert police and emergency responders about the presence of dogs in local residences.bark_alertsmall

Window decals are now available for Pflugerville homes through the department’s new B.A.R.K. Alert program, which stands for “Be Aware of Residential K9s.” Residents are asked to place the decal in the corner of the window closest to the main entry of the household to serve as a reminder to emergency responders to take appropriate safety measures during calls for service, if time and conditions allow them to do so.

“It’s essential that our officers have as much information about a call for service as possible when responding to an emergency,” said Chief Jessica Robledo. “Many of us love our pets like family, the Pflugerville Police Department wants to take their wellbeing into account as much as possible in the midst of a stressful situation, and if we know there is a pet there before we enter the home it creates a safer encounter for both the officer and the animal.”

The free B.A.R.K. Alert window decals are available at the Pflugerville Police Department (1611 E. Pfennig Ln.), City Hall, Pflugerville Animal Welfare Services (PAWS), and several local participating veterinarian offices and dog grooming locations.
