Communications
Pflugerville 911, Fire, Police and EMS (Emergency Medical Services)

Communications (Dispatch) is a division of the Pflugerville Police Department. Thedispatch pictures 014_thumb.png primary function of the communications system is to satisfy the immediate communication needs of the agencies in their daily activities and during emergencies.

The system conveys information from the public to the Department through communications personnel, to the officer who responds to the call for assistance, to other law enforcement and public service agencies and to information storage facilities and retrieval systems.

The speed and accuracy with which information flows through each system component measures the agency's capability to respond to the needs of the community.

Communications personnel answer multiple incoming administrative police lines and 911 lines. These personnel also make telephone calls as needed to facilitate the needs of the Police Department. The personnel also access state and national information such as driver's license checks, vehicle registration checks and wanted information, etc.

The Pflugerville Police Department currently has 9 full time dispatchers, 1 call taker, and 4 supervisors. All dispatchers are required to go through an intensive 14-16 week training program.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS
There are several ways to view or receive emergency notifications from Pflugerville Police Department.

The Regional Notification System, or RNS, is a system that allows emergency notifications to be sent out to citizens as needed by law enforcement.  This system is activated by Communications staff and messages are communicated to citizens by their phone number.  This system is only used in the case of legitimate emergency circumstances.  As a citizen, you also have the option to register your cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses as additional ways to receive emergency notifications. Registrations are processed through www.CAPCOG.org and Homeland Security.  The database is housed by CodeRed.  To register your contacts for these alerts, please visit www.CAPCOG.org, on the left hand side of the screen is a link to "Homeland Security", on the drop-down menu select "Regional Notification System".  You will be directed to a page giving a brief description of the Regional Notification System.  There is a link in red that you can click to register.

Emergency and non-emergency notifications regarding the Pflugerville area are also sent out by Nixle - these notifications may include traffic notifications, boil water notices as well as emergency communications.  Nixle is a web based communication service, but only those who have registered their phones and e-mails will receive these notifications.  To learn more about Nixle and register your phone, visit www.Nixle.com.

The City of Pflugerville also publishes information to both Twitter and Facebook.
