A Tornado Watch, is an announcement from the National Weather Service (NWS) that a tornado
. The sky may be clear at the time you hear the Watch, but don’t be fooled. Listen to the radio for the latest news and get to safety.
When someone has seen a tornado or radar detects one, the NWS issues a Warning. At this point, tornado may be moving towards you. You may see dark swirling or funnel-shaped clouds above. There may be thunder, lightning, heavy rain or hail. When you see large hail, you may be close to a tornado. Power may go off. You should be inside finding a secure place for you, your family and your pets.
Enter a room with no windows (bathroom, centrally located room in your house). If you have bicycle helmets - put them on. Stay in the room with your phone/radio. If you have power, turn the TV volume up so you can hear it from your safe location. If in a closet, try to eliminate overhead items that could fall on you if a tornado did hit your home.
Don't forget your pets! Consider crating your pets so they are secure and safe as well.
