Charter designation for legal counsel
The Office of the City Attorney is established by Section 4.03 of the City Charter. The City Council appoints the City Attorney and the City Attorney serves as the legal advisor and attorney for the city and all its departments and officers in the conduct of city business and shall represent the City in all litigation.
In 2011, the Pflugerville City Council engaged the law firm of Denton Navarro Rocha Bernal Hyde & Zech, P.C. to serve as the City’s legal department. Organized in 1990 the firm’s public law practice provides local government and its officials and employees with the highest quality local government representation. The firm is currently a 21 attorney, three-office law firm recognized in municipal law and called upon geographically to serve communities throughout almost the entire State of Texas, including every major metropolitan area in the state. The Firm holds merit certification in municipal law from the Texas City Attorneys Association and is proud and honored to serve the City of Pflugerville as its City Attorney’s Office.
DNRBH&Z, P.C. holds more than a quarter-century of operational and practical experience serving local government. Initially focused on litigation defense of cities throughout Texas, the firm continues to defend cities and public officials in litigation from municipal court and administrative matters, to both State and Federal Court, and even all the way to and including the United State Supreme Court (See Flores v. City of Boerne, U.S. Supreme Court 1998). It’s ethical, innovative, collaborative, cost-effective and outcome driven strategies proven effective throughout its long history, based in large part on the attorney’s ethical, candid, non-partisan, relationship-building approach to practicing public law.
