History of the Driskill Hotel with Monte Akers

Monte Akers will discuss his book, The Grand Dame of Austin, which details the history of Austin's historical Driskill Hotel. Anyone 18 and up is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

Monte Akers is an attorney and an author. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1976, has worked for the state, for a Fortune 500 corporation, as Director of Legal Services of the Texas Municipal League, and since 2002 he has been in private practice in Austin in the firm of Akers & Akers. He is a former Adjunct Professor at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) University, is secretary of the Board of Directors of the Austin Historical Center Association, and is the author of numerous magazine articles and legal papers in addition to books. He is the husband and law partner of Patty Akers, the father of Nathan Akers and Megan Akers, and the grandfather of Madison Marie Akers and Harper Channing Akers. Hardy Publishing, 2016) co-authored with Nathan Akers and Dr. Roger Friedman and Grande Dame of Austin: A History of the Drikill Hotel, (Waterloo Press, 2017).
