Residents reminded to “drop it and lock it” during holiday shopping
The Pflugerville Police Department will post reminders from its "Drop it and Lock it" campaign around town this week to remind shoppers to drop valuables in their trunks and lock their cars to protect their recent purchases. By clearing their vehicles and locking their doors, residents can help reduce the number of auto burglaries this holiday season.
The department would also like to remind the public of these important holiday shopping tips:
- Try to conduct your shopping during the daytime and use light to your advantage in the evenings by parking in well-lit areas.
- Don’t leave extra keys, garage door openers, or accessible firearms in your vehicle. These items, if stolen, can lead to more serious crime.
- Suspicious activity or individuals can be reported to the Police Department by calling 512-990-6700. Callers should have a good description of the vehicle and license plate number ready to give dispatchers. Always call 911 in case of an emergency.
- If you plan to shop online, consider redirecting your package to a locker or pickup point instead of mailing it directly to your house. Amazon has self-service lockers that can be selected at checkout, and FedEx and UPS customers can usually request that the company hold packages for pickup at a customer center for no additional fee after receiving shipment confirmation online.
