Median construction on Kelly Lane
The new median being constructed on Kelly Lane at Murchison Ridge Trail is being installed as part of a greater plan to improve traffic flow and provide a higher level of safety along Kelly Lane. Upon completion, the median and a turn lane will allow eastbound Kelly Lane traffic to turn left onto Murchison Ridge while preventing traffic from the gas station from making a dangerous left turn onto Kelly Lane. Neighborhood traffic exiting southbound on Murchison Ridge Trail will be allowed to make a right-turn only. Traffic wishing to turn left will use Kennemer Drive or other alternative routes.
As part of this plan, and prior to school starting, city staff will make signal modifications at Kelly Lane and Kennemer Drive that will bring some positive changes to traffic flow through that intersection and will continue to monitor traffic through this area to make further modifications as needed.
With Costco coming to town, the city works closely with them on the traffic impact analysis for the overall area. Costco paid for and performed the traffic study on this area of road, and city engineers thoroughly review these studies and work together with developers to make sure that the plan is in line with city regulations. The median work is funded by Costco because of the new development taking place at the intersection and its impact on traffic.
With many roadways intersecting with Kelly, the Murchison Ridge turn lane and median provides a safety need in the area and, while it changes some driver’s patterns, there are alternate routes to use from the neighborhoods to get where residents need to go.
