Christmas tree recycling at the Pflugerville Recycle Center through Jan 14

The Recycle Center is now accepting Christmas trees. For your convenience, the Recycle Center will be open Monday - Saturday from January 2 - 14, 2019. The Pflugerville Recycle Center is located at 15500 Sun Light Near Way #B near Northeast Travis County Metro Park. Please remove all decorations from your tree. Trees dropped off for recycling are mulched, and residents are welcome to pick up mulch while supplies last.

Please note that in previous years Christmas tree recycling was offered at Wells Point Park. There will be no Christmas tree recycling at Wells Point Park. Thank you to everyone for recycling your tree.

Register your alarm permit with Pflugerville Police Department

Alarm PermitThe City of Pflugerville Alarm Permit helps the Police Department know how to contact a resident or commercial business owner in case of an alarm at a residence or business. There is no fee to participate. Pflugerville City Ordinance, Pflugerville Code of Ordinances - Chapter 97, requires all residents and businesses who have an alarm, whether monitored or not, to obtain an alarm permit from the City. The permit form includes contact information for two authorized people for the police to notify if the police respond to an alarm and find an emergency on the premises.

Permits are needed for banking institutions, businesses and residential homes. Permits can be obtained at the Pflugerville Justice Center or on the city website. Please renew and/or register your alarm system. When you register, you will be prompted to sign up to be notified when your permit is due for renewal.  Alarm permits are only issued to residents who live in the city limits.

Permits expire on December 31 of each year. Individuals are responsible for renewing their permit each year with a new application. Chilly temperatures remind us to bring pets indoors

Each January the temperature begins to drop. Bring pets indoors. If it's too cold outside for you, it's also too cold for your pets. Make sure that pet shelters are warm with blankets.

Meet your New Year's resolution goals at the Pflugerville Recreation Center

The Pflugerville Recreation Center, 400 Immanuel Road, is excited about New Year’s resolution time. Classes are geared up and ready to begin to help you reach your fitness goals. The indoor walking track is great during cold weather.  Whether your resolution is to get healthy, learn something new, or find a way to get out of the house for some new and interesting fellowship, we have what you need at an affordable price.

At only $125 for a Pflugerville family for an entire year, less than $11 a month, you can enjoy the gift of fitness. A Pflugerville adult can be a member for $75 a year, $6.25 a month. For more information on fees, please visit www.pflugervilletx.gov/recreationcenter.

Register for the Deutschen Pfest 5k Pfun Run & Kids Krace1

Mark your calendars for the Deutschen Pfest 5K Pfun Run and Kids K on May 19, 2019. Registration for the race is only $25 before February 28 and includes a T-shirt that gives free admission to the Deutschen Pfest. Registration for the Kids K is $15. Teen Musical Meetup Jan. 5

Fans of Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, The Greatest Showman, and other musicals are invited to enjoy sing-alongs, trivia, and crafts and learn simple stage makeup tips at the library on January 5 from 2 - 4 p.m. during Teen Musical Meetup. Cosplay is welcome and encouraged. Bring your phone to take selfies in the photo booth. Ages 12 - 18 are welcome. Craft supplies will be available while supplies last.

Paint Pouring at Adult Craft Night

Participate in a fun craft and get creative in the new year. On Thursday, January 10, adults are invited to come to the Pflugerville Public Library and learn paint-pouring techniques while creating a unique piece of art. Materials available while supplies last. This craft is for ages 18 and up only. Starts at 6 p.m.

Wiggle Worm Storytime: For Children with Special Needs

Children will enjoy fun movement activities, music, and interactive books, followed by sensory activities and crafts during Wiggle Worm Storytime at the library. This storytime is designed for children that have special needs. The activities are planned at a pre-k developmental level, but all ages are welcome. Wiggle Worm Storytime takes place on the second Friday of each month at 10:30 a.m. The first Wiggle Worm Storytime meets on Friday, January 11 at the Pflugerville Public Library. 

Enjoy winter-themed activities at Winter Pfest

Enjoy an indoor, winter-themed event with your family at the library on Saturday, January 12, from 2 - 4 p.m. There will be games, crafts, and activities such as a snowball fight, an indoor maze, temporary tattoos, pin the carrot to the snowman, balloon shapes and more. Hot cocoa and cookies sponsored by the Friends of the Pflugerville Library will be available while supplies last. This is a free event. Planned crafts and activities are recommended for families with younger children, ages 10 and under.

What's Happening

City offices closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day - City offices and facilities including the Pflugerville Recreation Center, City Hall, Pflugerville Animal Welfare Services, Library and Recycle Center are closed on Monday, January 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trash pickup and recycling are not affected. If you need assistance when the City is closed, please call the police communications line at 512-990-6700. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1. 

Design and print your own business cards - Register for the do-it-yourself DIY Business Cards class at the library. Staff will show you how to use Canva to design your own business cards. At the end of the program, you can print up to 50 cards. Bring a flash drive so that you can save your finished file. Anyone 18 and up is welcome. The class will be on Friday, January 18 from 1 - 2 p.m.

Save the Date

January 17 - Adult Pfab Lab Craft: Button Making - On January 17 from 6 - 7:30 p.m., learn how to use the library's button maker. Use a pre-printed design or design your own. Materials will be provided while supplies last. Anyone 18 and up is welcome to attend. Children are not allowed in the Pfab Lab during adult programs.

January 26 & 27 - Pfat Cat Adoptions - PAWS is offering Pfat Cat adoption specials on January 26 and 27 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. The adoption fee for cats will be based on how much they weigh, $1/lb. All cats 10 lbs and more will be $10. Guess the weight of your new cat within 1/2 lb and the adoption is free. PAWS is located at 1600 Waterbrook Drive.
