City of Pflugerville names Shane Mize as Parks and Recreation Director
Mize will start his new role at the beginning of June.
The City of Pflugerville is pleased to announce Mr. Shane Mize, C.P.R.P as the new Parks and Recreation Director after City Council confirmed the appointment at the May 14 City Council meeting. Mize has spent the last 15 years as a public servant in the parks and recreation industry. Previously, he was a Community Center Supervisor in the City of Fort Worth, and then served as both a Recreation Superintendent and Assistant Director during his time in the City of Missouri City. Most recently he was the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Hutto.
Mize is a strong advocate for the role of parks and recreation and its impact on the quality of life, the environment and the local economy it serves. He is a member of both the Texas Recreation and Parks Society and the National Recreation and Parks Association, where he was served on state and national boards and committees. Mize was awarded the Texas Recreation and Parks Society’s Young Professional of the Year Award in 2011, the Southwest Region Outstanding Young Professional of the Year Award in 2012 and the National Recreation and Parks Association’s National Young Professional of the Year Award in 2012. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports, Fitness and Leisure Management from Hardin Simmons University and a Master’s Degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration from Western Illinois University.
Pflugerville’s Parks and Recreation Director oversees park development, recreation programs and classes, aquatic programs and pools, special events and the Pflugerville Recreation Center. Mize will start in his new role at the beginning of June 2019.
