Register for half day camps at the Recreation Center

We still have space in several of our half day summer camps at the Pflugerville Recreation Center. Registration is available at pflugervilletx.gov/camps

CSI Forensics: July 29 - August 2 (registration closes August 25)

Put on your detective hat and become a CSI investigator with this week‐long class that explores topics in forensic investigation, evidence collection and techniques, and problem solving. Observe a crime scene, and take fingerprints and footprints. Question subjects and perform DNA and blood analysis. Through the use of science and technology, discover clues left behind that may be invisible to the naked eye. From analyzing handwriting to taking teeth molds, students will enjoy this hands‐on camp where they will develop their detective skills and help solve a mystery!

Culinary Mischief - Pastels: August 5-9 (registration closes August 1)

Our domestic critters are up to no good in this five-day pastel workshop! We’ll use pastels to create amazing, “can’t-believe-I-drew-this” masterpieces. A mouse making soup, a dog eyeing the spaghetti and silly birds on cakes are some of the mischievously-delicious drawings students will create every day. Pastels are an amazing medium, that with good direction, can make an artist out of any rookie. You won’t believe the results from this fun-for-all, skill-enhancing workshop. No experience necessary. Please wear an old shirt or smock to class each day.

Summer Reading Program wrapping up at Pflugerville Public Library

Summer Reading Program logo

It has been a busy summer at the library so far, with over 1,000 new library cards issued and hundreds of programs. Make sure to get your summer reading logs in by 6 p.m. today. The library will announce the winning team on July 27 at Pay it Forward Pflugerville. The entire library will be decorated in the winning team's color. The event also offers opportunities to give blood, make toys for the animals at the Pflugerville Animal Shelter, decorate greeting cards for residents at the Pflugerville Care Center, talk to representatives from charitable organizations, and much more. Pay it Forward Pflugerville is an opportunity for the entire family to give back to the community and spread a little kindness. Check the library calendar for this and other upcoming events. Remember, the library is a great place to visit to beat the summer heat!

Extreme heat safety

Temperatures in the area have soared and are expected to remain high for several weeks. Please take precautions to watch out for the heat.

  • It's best to stay indoors in air conditioning if possible. No AC? Visit the Pflugerville Library for a cool retreat.
  • Take extra care if you must work or spend time outside. Work in the shade, wear a hat, and drink plenty of water.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion: High body temperature; muscle cramps; a lack of sweat - or an abundance of it; confusion or trouble walking; a pounding headache; dizziness, nausea, or vomiting; skin redness; and elevated heart rate or trouble breathing. If you think someone is dealing with heat stroke, call 911 - the situation can be life-threatening.
  • Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances for any length of time.
  • Be sure to hydrate and drink plenty of water before, during, and after going outside.

Weiss Lane Traffic Switch Planned for July 23

As construction nears completion along Weiss Lane, a final lane switch is scheduled for the northbound lanes Tuesday, July 23rd, weather permitting. Northbound traffic, beginning at Pflugerville Parkway, will be moved to the completed northbound lanes of Weiss Lane through August 30th, the anticipated completion date of the project. Although the northbound direction will have two lanes, the southbound direction will continue with a single lane between Cele Road and Pflugerville Parkway. The traffic switch will allow drivers to remain on the newly constructed northbound lanes all the way to Cele Road.

In addition to the traffic switch, a permanent all-way stop has been added at the intersection of Hidden Lake Crossing/Aventura Avenue and Weiss Lane.

It is important that drivers continue to observe and obey warning signs as contractor’s personnel complete work throughout the construction zone from Cele Road to Pecan Street.
