Pflugerville City Council to consider trash rate increase

Post Date:02/11/2020 4:05 PM

Update 2/12/2020: The ordinance passed on first reading. A second reading of the proposed rate increase will go before City Council on February 25.

On Tuesday, February 11, City Council will hear a first reading on an ordinance for a proposed rate increase for residential solid waste (trash) pickup citywide. This rate increase would include a $3.04 increase in the monthly trash rate, a $.71 increase for an extra trash cart and a $1.43 increase for an extra recycle cart. If approved, a second reading is set for February 25 and the ordinance would go into effect on March 1.

The proposed rate change would still keep Pflugerville at or below rates charged by other cities across Central Texas. This is the second rate increase since the City began once-a-week trash pickup and single stream recycling in 2010. The trash rate increase is needed to meet increased operational costs, including higher cost of fuel and is within the terms of the City’s current agreement with Waste Connections.

The proposed rate increase is as follows:

The rate change would maintain current services for customers with trash pickup once a week and recycling pickup every other week.

If members of the public would like to comment on the trash rate increase, City Council will hear this item at their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 11 at 7 p.m. located at 100 E. Main Street, Suite 500, Pflugerville, TX.
