Census 2020 - Be Counted

About the Census

The 2020 Census is the largest collection of statistical information on everyone who lives in the United States and is required by the U.S. Constitution (www.2020census.gov). Be counted to help shape how more than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed to local communities.

The Census form will mail April 1 nationwide. Watch your mailbox for your form to participate.

How the Census affects our City

The Census tells us how many people live in Texas and Pflugerville which affects the allocation of federal funding to our state and communities. Between 2000 and 2010, Texas added more than 4 million residents and gained 3 congressional seats. The distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities is based on census data. Get counted.

How the City uses information from the Census

The City uses the census data to compile population estimates. The City analyzes growth patterns for traffic and infrastructure needs, to plan for water contracts and supply and for emergency response services.  Valid growth trends help the City to anticipate future needs and evaluate services. The more information the City has about its residents, the better we can tailor events and programs to meet the needs of the various ages, sexes and ethnicities represented here in Pflugerville.

Counting children is especially important. Babies are included on your census form and even if a child splits time between two homes, if the child is in your home on April 1, count them on your census form. Coordinate with the other home they live in and make sure the child is counted one time.  Programs such as the National School Lunch Program and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are affected by the census count. The school district, hospital and schools hospitals and health care industry all use the census data to help plan based on growth in the area.

All responses to the census are confidential. Citizenship is not asked on the census form.

It’s not just about knowing how many people live in the USA. The Census is about knowing how many people live in Texas and Pflugerville which affects the allocation of federal funding to our state and communities.

Between 2000 and 2010, Texas added more than 4 million residents and gained 3 congressional seats. The distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities is based on census data. Get counted.

The City uses the census when looking at city growth and planning for water contracts and supply, roadway expansions, and emergency response services.  Valid growth trends help the City to anticipate future needs and evaluate services. The more information the City has about its residents, the better we can tailor events and programs to meet the needs of the various ages, sexes and ethnicities represented here in Pflugerville.

In the City's comprehensive plan, data is used to track trends in our community. Housing types and neighborhood styles are all impacted by population size and demographics.
