Reopening Safely an update from Mayor Gonzales - May 2020
Pflugerville looks different than it did a few months ago. We are wearing face coverings in the community, waiting in lines for groceries and essentials, attending virtual schools and, sadly, worrying if our families and friends will be ok. But… Pflugerville remains strong.
Your City Council is responding to COVID-19 with measures that promote the safety and well-being of all residents. Based on Governor Greg Abbott’s executive orders, your City Council took numerous steps to keep our citizens safe, e.g., closing City facilities and scaling back or temporarily ceasing services. These changes are tough, yet necessary.
The City continues to work collaboratively with the Pflugerville Fire Department and PfISD, who along with all first responders and medical professionals, place themselves in harm’s way every day for us all. Thank you to all who have supported others in need. Human care and kindness helps keep Pflugerville strong.
Sadly, many of our local and small businesses have been hit hard. In response, the Pflugerville Downtown Association made a substantial commitment to support businesses, and the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce and Community Development Corporation formed the Pflugerville Pfund. As Texas reopens, I ask you to support our Pflugerville restaurants and businesses to support your neighbor. Your City Council is developing a strategy to reopen City facilities and services. Our goal is for Pflugerville to reopen, but open safely.
Pfriends, I understand the stress and anxiety this disease has created, but Pflugerville is resilient. Let’s emerge from this together with an even stronger sense of Pflugerville community. Stay Safe and Strong for ourselves and one another.
