weiss lane road project 1

Road closure planned March 20-23 at Jesse Bohls and Weiss intersection

Starting Wednesday, March 20 at 9:15 a.m. through Saturday, March 23, Jesse Bohls Drive at its intersection with Weiss Lane will be closed for construction associated with the ongoing Weiss Lane project, weather permitting. Weiss Lane will remain open to traffic. Detour signage will be posted for alternate routes. Please travel cautiously through the construction zone as detours will change traffic patterns.

City staff coordinated the intersection closure with Travis County and it was approved by the Travis County Commissioners Court on March 12, 2019.

Project Information

Throughout the construction, the roadway will remain open with a north and southbound lane of traffic at all times.

This project will widen the roadway from Wilbarger Creek to Cele Rd. from two lanes to four lanes with curb and gutter and drainage improvements. The southernmost section from Wilbarger Creek to East Pecan St. will be reconstructed as a two-lane roadway with shoulders. The project limits are from East Pecan St. to Cele Rd. (3 miles) and include reconstruction of all bridges from Pecan Street to Cele Road starting with the one-lane bridge closest to Pecan St. The project is funded by voter-approved bond funds (City of Pflugerville and Travis County).

Improvements include:

  • Replacing all bridges from Pecan Street to Cele Road starting with the one-lane bridge near Pecan St.
  • Expanding road from two to four lanes
  • Adding turn lanes and shoulders
  • Improved drainage

Funding: Weiss Lane was an approved 2014 bond project which allowed for a reconstruction to the existing two lane section and incorporate shoulders and turn lanes at major intersections.

In 2015, the City Council put Weiss Lane back on the ballot for residents to decide if they want a four-lane or a two-lane Weiss Lane.  The 2015 bond was approved by the voters to make a four-lane urban roadway.

This project is via a cost-sharing safety project with Travis County bond funds ($6.73 million) previously approved by county voters to reconstruct the current roadway with turn lanes and drainage improvements.  At the November 18, 2014 Council meeting, the city approved an inter-local agreement with Travis County to proceed on improvements to Weiss Lane.

Benefits

With the announcement of the fourth high school along Weiss Lane, this expansion will allow greater access to the new high school.

Project Schedule and Status

The project began in early 2017 with construction scheduled for completion in summer 2019.

In conjunction with this project,  the city completed installation of water lines in July 2016 for the new high school along Weiss Lane.
